Dear Colleagues,

We have been getting mixed reports about the distribution of discretionary funds.  Please reach out to Mike Maillaro at mmaillaro@newarkteachersunion.com if you have not yet received your funds.

In addition, it is vital ensure that “unexpended amounts” are distributed in accordance with the contract as quoted below.

Please direct your administrators’ attention to the underlined section below should they have an issue with the process.

At last week's Long Island President's Council meeting we were made aware of a very serious situation. The teachers of the Lawrence Teachers' Association are coming to the end of theirFIFTH year without a contract, and anticipate beginning their SIXTH in September!

Win at Western Maryland Hospital Center

In the wake of community outrage around the potential closure of Western Maryland Hospital Center (WMHC)  we are pleased that the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) is no longer interested in pursuing a Request for Proposal (RFP) which is a first step to the privatization of the facility.

Civil Service Changes Update

July 7, 2016.  The law that gutted civil service, Act 150, went into effect on July 1, 2016, although some changes won't be implemented right away.    Here is a link to a set of FAQs about the changes.

There was also a public hearing before the Senate Committee on Labor and Government Reform where DOA officials (Cate Zueske and Stacey Rolston) described the implementation of Act 150.  Below is a link to the video (it's about 2 hours).
