NTU SUPPORTING HOUSTON COLLEAGUES IN THE WAKE OF HURRICANE HARVEY

The Nashua Teachers’ Union Board of Directors met on August 30 for their first meeting of the year.  On the agenda was Texas AFT and how they could help their colleagues in Texas.  To that end, the Board of Directors unanimously approved donating $2,415.00 to the Texas AFT Disaster Relief Fund.  The $2,415.00 is an odd number for a donation, but it has special meaning.

NASHUA TEACHERS’ UNION CALLS ON BOARD FOR ACTION ON PROPOSED CONTRACT

NASHUA, NH August 28, 2017 – Over 1,000 teachers are waiting for a new contract, but they’re not going to have one before the school year begins. For the third contract in a row, Nashua’s teachers are beginning the school year without an employment contract in place to continue the one that is expiring on August 31. This year, however, the Nashua Teachers’ Union (NTU) seemed to be on the verge of an agreement with the Nashua Board of Education (BOE) when the Board suddenly went silent after a promising meeting on June 15. Last week, the BOE finally agreed to resume negotiations in mid-September – a full three months since the parties last met.

Camden Street Kicks off the year right!

On Monday, August 28, 2017 Camden St Staff Members and Special Assistant Zachary King, (Glover Network) made themselves available to our neighboring families in the community. We were able to meet and greet staff members from the Harmony House which houses some of our students from the school.

CUB, AFT-MD support ATU Transit Rally

Citizens across the city, unhappy with the new Baltimore transportation program, the BaltimoreLink, joined with our AFL-CIO sisters and brothers the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) for a protest against Governor Hogan’s transportation plans for the city of Baltimore.

2019-2020 Pay Dates

2019-2020 Pay dates: As per NPS, these are the pay dates for the 2019-2010 school year. Unless indicated, all pay checks are for ten (10) days.

Remember that all full-time staff are paid to the day, not a week behind. The “pay period” on top of staff’s check often creates confusion about that.

AFT-Maryland is heartbroken at the news of the destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey to those in southern Texas. The images of people wading in water chest high in their homes is absolutely devastating. We hope that our federal government, in coordination with state and local officials in Texas, can work quickly and safely to evacuate citizens who remain in the most dangerous areas.
